Time to Bake that Christmas Cake

At this time of year our thoughts turn to Christmas and inevitably to Christmases past. As children it seemed to us that the day would never come but to our long suffering parents especially mum there was never enough time to get everything done!

In an old cookery book which was donated to the Homes I came across a faded handwritten recipe from a mother to her daughter for a Christmas fruitcake. I have one myself in my mother's handwriting and so I was very interested to read this one.
It starts off "Darling Judy," and goes on to list the recipe and method and poignantly at the end she adds
Don't forget to have a stir 3 times around and a happy wish. You have an extra wish for me. Thanks. All my love Mom.xxxxxxxx"  How special.

The Annual Fete was fantastic and all the more so because none of us would have imagined that the Community would turn out in that awful weather to support us.
We have had so many compliments regarding all the products on offer at the Fete so very well done to all the people who worked so hard and who donated time and money so generously to make the event the astonishing success it was.

In his speech at the Home's AGM recently chairman Pat Mclaverty said
"Most importantly, the people of Eshowe, Zululand and beyond have been extremely generous in time, goods, expertise and money in support of the home. Thank you to all concerned. Without community support, this home would not survive."
